Itinerary (Best Travel Period: October-November)

 

Day 1 : Arrive San Sebastian, Spain

  • Enjoy a walking tour on the romantic side of the city, discover the elegant 19th century buildings of French inspiration in Belle Epoque style. Interesting features include the Plaza de Gipuzoka, the Paseo de Francia, alongside the Estacion del Norte, with its fountains and early 20th century mansions and the pretty Maria Cristina Bridge.
  • Dinner, experience evolutionary and avant garde Basque cooking at its best, 3 Michelin star Restaurant - Arzak, annually ranked as one of the World’s Top 10 Best Restaurants.

 

Day 2 : San Sebastian

  • Take a funicular up to the top of Mount Igueldo, with the panoramic view of San Sebastian.
  • Enjoy the Basque Coast by hiking the coastal St. James Way, part of the pilgrimage route to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, according to tradition it’s where the remains of the apostal Saint James were buried.
  • Explore the town of Pasaia, enjoy a lobster lunch with harbor views.
  • Drive to Hondarribia, a beautiful town right at the border with France.
  • Dinner in Martin Berasategui, Michelin 3-star restaurant well known for molecular haute cuisine.

 

Day 3 : San Sebastian

  • Tour the picturesque Old Town, flanked by a port, the Urumea river and Mount Urgull.
  • Visit three significant buildings
  • Church of San Vincente, the oldest in the city;
  • Basilica of Santa Maria, an impressive Baroque work dating from the 18th century;
  • Museo San Telmo, a 16th century Dominican convent, once a military barrack and now a Museum of Basque Society and Citizenship.
  • Enjoy lunch at the 3 Michelin stars Restaurant - Akelarre, with a magnificent ocean view.
  • Visit the Aroa Farm, produces some of the finest, rarest, most delicious greens in the Basque Region. It is unsurprising that he provides for up to 27 Michelin starred restaurants!
  • Fuse into the local culture with a Pintxos tour, sample haute cuisine creations with elaborated flavors concentrated into tiny mouthwatering pieces.

 

Day 4 : Bilbao/ Provence, France

  • Drive to Bilbao, visit the famous Guggenheim Museum, designed by Frank O. Gehry, is a masterpiece of design and a wonder of construction.
  • Enjoy lunch in one of the hidden gems, housed in a beautiful medieval building, specializing in grilled dishes.
  • Fly to Provence.

 

Day 5 : Provence

  • Visit the lovely capital of Avignon, set by River Rhone. This is the only city in the world to host the Pope outside Vatican.
  • Visit the Papal Palace and enjoy a walking tour.
  • Move on to Pont Du Gard, the best preserved Roman aqueduct.
  • Go on the Van Gogh Artist Trail in Arles.

 

Day 6 : Provence

  • Visit the beautiful village of Gordes, listed among the most beautiful villages in France.
  • The trail lead to the Cistercian monastery of Sénanque and to its famed lavender fields.
  • Visit the village of Roussillon, where you will enjoy a walk through the colorful ochre cliffs, before returning to l’Isle sur la Sorgue.
  • Deluxe outdoor dinner in a beautiful environment and sample wine in selected vineyards.

 

Day 7 : Alba, Italy

  • Fly to Alba – the precious white truffle is only available here and Istria in Croatia and only in the mid to late fall.
  • Relax and departure to Canelli, for a guided visit to the oldest Italian wine cellar producing “metodo classico” sparkling wine and its huge underground cellars, so called “Underground Cathedrals”, designated a UNESCO Heritage Site. Enjoy tasting of the greatest Italian Spumante wines with snacks.

 

Day 8 : Alba

  • Explore the Barolo wine area, from which “the King of wines and Wine of kings” takes its name.
  • Be welcomed to a well-known Barolo cellar, where the producer himself will show you and explain the fascinating world of the Barolo wine production, also have wine tasting with local and natural snacks.
  • Visit WIMU museum at Barolo.
  • Lunch in Michelin starred restaurant La Ciau del Tornavento in Treiso, with the chance of tasting the greatest dishes of the Piedmonts superior cuisine by Maurilio Garola.
  • Catch the International Alba White Truffle Fair with the folkloristic Truffle Market, where the trifulao (truffle hunters) sell their precious “jewels”.
  • Stroll in the historical center, among elegant boutiques, liberty palaces, medieval churches and historical cafés.

 

Day 9 : Alba

  • Go on an exciting Truffle hunting excursion looking for the prestigious Alba White Truffle (Tuber Magnatum Pico) with the truffle-hunter and his trained dog.
  • Lunch in a characteristic and charming agriturismo with tasting of Truffle slices on one dish.
  • Short transfer to Grinzane Cavour and guided visit to the impressive medieval castle.
  • A renowned local chef will prepare dinner with the freshly purchased high grade white truffle!

 

Day 10 : Departure
